Zoom, Quora Among 94 Platforms Onboarded on Sahyog Portal

As many as 94 companies, including Zoom, Yahoo, Quora, and Zoho, have onboarded the Sahyog Portal as of September 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs mentioned in an RTI response to MediaNama. This is a significant increase compared to the 38 platforms that the government had previously disclosed to have onboarded the portal as part of the case X had filed against it in the Karnataka High Court. For context, MediaNama had asked for the names of all service providers, apps, and platforms that onboarded the Sahyog Portal between August and September 2025.

The Sahyog portal brings together all platforms and all authorised agencies to ensure immediate action against unlawful content. The government issues notices to platforms using the Sahyog Portal under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act, 2000. Section 79 of the IT Act guarantees intermediaries (like online platforms) immunity from liability for the content that a third party posts on their service. Part (3)(b) of Section 79, however, states that platforms can lose this liability if they fail to remove unlawful content after the Government or its agencies notify them about said content.

Since the case began, the government has also onboarded e-commerce platforms onto the portal. In response to a MediaNama RTI earlier this year, it had stated that Nykaa, Zomato, Blinkit, Flipkart, Amazon, Urban Company, Shiprocket, Reliance Retail, OLX India, Meesho, IndiaMart, etc, had onboarded the service. This indicated that there were more platforms besides the ones the government had clearly listed out. Sure enough, as per the fresh RTI response, other e-commerce platforms like Zepto and Shopclues are also on the Sahyog Portal now.

Why it matters:

With a list of platforms on the Sahyog Portal, we have more insight into the full scope of how the government is leveraging the Sahyog Portal for digital governance. One quick look at the list suggests that platforms and companies from across various parts of the digital ecosystem are a part of it now. This includes e-commerce platforms, social media sites, web hosting services, data centres, and domain registries.

Interestingly, in a press release from July, the government had mentioned that 72 IT Intermediaries and 35 Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) have onboarded the platform. This takes the actual tally of businesses on the portal to 107. This indicates that there are service providers beyond the ones mentioned in the RTI response. MediaNama has filed another RTI seeking the names of the VASPs.
