Xbox ROG Ally Can Now Automatically Fine-Tune Frame Rate, Power Consumption

Xbox just rolled out a major update for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld that brings Default Game Profiles to about 40 games. The feature automatically fine-tunes the frame rate and power consumption without manual tweaking.

Default Game Profiles work by setting a target frame rate and power limit (TDP) specific to each game when you’re playing on battery. If a game is not reaching its target frame rate, the system increases power to achieve it. This makes the game run smoother but uses more battery. On the other hand, if performance exceeds the target, the system limits the frame rate to conserve battery. In Hollow Knight: Silksong, for example, the profile can add nearly an hour of battery compared to Performance mode while still hitting around 120 frames per second.

The preview launch covers first-party games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and 7, Forza Horizon 5, Gears of War: Reloaded, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with more coming soon. You can toggle profiles on or off per game from the Armoury Crate Command Center Game Bar widget.

Beyond profiles, other changes include improvements to gamepad response time right after login, faster library loading, and a Cloud Gaming page that feels snappier overall. There’s also a new Game Gallery filter by Performance Fit to help you see which titles run well on your device.

To access these features, install the latest Armoury Crate SE, Xbox app, and Windows 11 updates on your Ally.
