A Reddit user has reported a major data loss incident involving Google’s Antigravity agentic Integrated Developer Environment (IDE). The user says the AI software deleted their entire drive during a routine coding session.
Google promotes Antigravity as a platform that developers can trust. In a video attached to the post, the user explains they were building an app on the platform. They wanted to restart the server, and the AI agent said it needed to delete the cache to proceed.
The situation took a turn for the worse when the user realized the AI took the instructions a bit too far. Instead of clearing the specific project folder, the AI targeted the root of the D: drive. After the incident, the confused user asked Antigravity if they had permitted this action. The AI said they had not, replying that it had reviewed the logs and found that the command had incorrectly targeted the drive. It apologized repeatedly, calling the event a “critical failure.”
This event follows a similar incident earlier this year involving an AI coding agent named Replit. In that case, a business owner engaged in “vibe coding” watched the AI delete a company database, Fortune reported. The Replit AI also immediately confessed to the error, saying it had “panicked” instead of thinking.
In a YouTube video offering proof of the Antigravity incident (above), the Reddit user noted that blindly trusting Google’s AI had been their mistake.
