In a new post on the Google Blog, the company teased more personalization, smoother sharing, and new ways to relive your year inside the Photos app.
A tailored look back
Google Photos Recap 2025 takes the year-in-review formula and gives users more control over what makes the cut. The update lets you fine-tune your highlight reel, from hiding certain faces or photos to refreshing the mix entirely with a single tap.
For users in the US with Gemini features turned on in Photos, the experience gets even smarter. Beyond your top people and photo stats, it now surfaces your standout hobbies and most memorable moments, turning your photo library into something closer to a personal documentary than a slideshow.
Quick edits meet creative freedom
This year’s recap hands the creative reins back to the user. You can make quick tweaks right inside the app or take your project into CapCut for a full-on edit with exclusive templates and custom soundtracks. The finished video carries your rhythm, your taste, your story.
Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur clean up the details before you hit share, and new “souvenirs” — short clips and collages — are ready-made for your favorite social apps. It’s a faster way to polish and share the best of your year.
Smart sorting minus the scrolling
Once your recap rolls out, it stays pinned in the Collections tab all month and slides neatly into the Memories carousel for easy replays. Machine learning organizes things, stacking near-duplicate shots together and sorting screenshots, notes, and receipts into their own quiet corners.
