Meta acquires AI startup Limitless, ending sales of its Pendant wearable

The Limitless Pendant

Limitless, an artificial intelligence startup focused on augmenting human memory and cognition through software and specialized hardware, has been acquired by Meta. The company’s flagship product was the Limitless Pendant, a small, elegant AI-powered wearable device. With the acquisition of this company, Meta is no doubt looking to compete with OpenAI, which is developing a wearable with Jony Ive.

In an announcement about the acquisition, Limitless said that it had been acquired by Meta to help deliver a shared vision of building “incredible AI-enabled wearables” and “personal superintelligence.”

For anyone out there who has purchased a Limitless device already, you are probably wondering where you stand in terms of support. Luckily, Limitless will continue to support existing Pendant customers for at least another year. It also said that its Unlimited Plan is now free for all existing customers; no subscription payment is necessary. Hopefully, getting the paid plan for free will lessen the blow that the company and its products are going away.

Limitless also said that continuing customers must agree to the updated Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. It also said that user data will remain safe, and a feature has been launched for easily exporting or deleting all data within the app – helpful if you don’t trust Meta.

Given that Limitless is ending support for its Pendant as early as next year, it should be no surprise to hear that Limitless is no longer selling the Pendant to new customers. Additionally, the company’s Rewind app is sunsetting; the latest update disables all screen and audio capture starting December 19, 2025. Furthermore, recording is now disabled in the Limitless Desktop App and Web App, but previously recorded meetings will remain accessible for at least another year.

While the company said that its Pendant will be supported for at least a year, the Limitless service will no longer be supported after December 19, 2025, in Brazil, China, the European Union, Israel, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. If you want to download stored transcripts before service ends in your region, you can learn how to do that in the Help Center.
